Panicale

Panicale has the connotation of a perfectly preserved medieval village, surrounded by a wall interspersed with several towers.

Among the most important artistic works we find the Collegiate Church of St. Michael Archangel, dedicated to the patron saint of the village, Baroque, St. Sebastian Church, which houses two splendid frescoes: the Martyrdom of St. Sebastian by Perugino, and Our Lady with Musical Angels by Raffaelo, the 14th century Podestà Palace, seat of the Municipal Historical Archive, and at the highest point of the village is the Cesare Caporali Theatre, one of the smallest in Umbria.

Not far away lies the 17th century Church of the Madonna della Sbarra, where the Museum of Vestments and Sacred Objects, which conserves artifacts from the various churches in Panicale, can be found in the hermitage.

Also worth a visit is the Tulle Museum, which is located in the former Church of St. Augustine, where precious tulle embroideries, a typical production of local handiwork, are on display.
