The "tofarello"
Lake Trasimeno Fishing Museum
Used to catch the roach, it consisted of a funnel-shaped hemp net, held open by circles of manna ash wood of decreasing diameter. The tofarèllo was prepared differently according to the occasion the fisherman intended to use it. During the winter it was generally the "people of the port” who used the tofarelle at the end of their boats to catch the roach that had escaped previous capture.
