Vernazzano Tower
The ancient castle of Vernazzano was built on a high spur of rock in analmost inaccesible and thus easily defensible location. Around the mid-18th century, following a landslide and earthquake, the high watchtower tilted dngerrously over the rock edge, and the castle was abandoned.
Recent environmental engineering interventions have secured the tower and the viewing path, as well as halted the erosive action of the river Rio at the bottom of the landslide.
