Weaving was one of the most popular “women’s work” in the rural world since ancient times. Especially in Umbria, both in the urban and peripheral centres, the documents refer to textile workshops set up in the homes of women, young and old alike, promoters of this phenomenon called “disseminated manufacturing”, retailed woven and embroidered goods. Among the oldest workshops is that of the 17th century Maddalena Weavers in Porta Santa Susanna, the district of Perugia to which also Corciano belonged, a true and proper shop, where many weavers sold their homemade goods.
