Museum System of Maggiore Island
The museum offer of Maggiore Island was born with the aim of giving clarity, enhancing and promoting the area of Lake Trasimeno. It is a rich and varied reality which covers different areas of interest: the history, geography of the lake environment, architecture, art, nature, faith and much more.
There are three stages to visit in the Museum Trail:
- The 13th century parish Church of St. Michael Archangel. Completely frescoed it houses a 15th century wooden cross, a remarkable work by the painter Bartolomeo Caporali from Perugia.
- The 14th century House of the Captain of the People which includes the central part of a triptych by the painter Sano di Pietro from Sienna and a wooden processional crucifix, both works of the 15th century.
- The Lace Museum housed in the 15th century building of the Palace of Pious Works, has a collection of traditional artefacts made in Irish Stitch, a technique introduced on the Island thanks Marquise Elena Guglielmi in 1904.
