Church of Saint Mary Magdalene
The church was built inside the new inhabited centre, when towards the end of the 14th century St. Agatha’s was destroyed, which was probably not rebuilt being in a too decentralized position in respect to the expanding town of Tuoro. The new church took the name of St. Mary Magdalene from a chapel dedicated to the saint which was located downstream of the town. The church was completely rebuilt during the second half of the 19th century based on a project by the architect Giovanni Santini. In the architectonical structure he was inspired by the 16th century models that were to be found in the Trasimeno area, such as the Mongiovino Sanctuary on the opposite shore of the lake, from which he repeated the typology of the central plan with a dome. In 1949, the futurist artist Gerardo Dottori, one of the creators and first interpreters of Aeropainting, decorated the church apse, where one can admire his large tempera depicting the conversion of Magdalene. The work displays a splendid view of Lake Trasimeno in the background.
