Ars Panicalensis Embroidery
Anita Belleschi Grifoni Tulle Museum
“Ars Panicalensis” tulle embroidery was born in Panicale in the first half of the 20th century at the behest of Anita Belleschi Grifoni, a cultured and refined, but also very enterprising woman, who founded the local embroidery school in the 1930s. It was recognised by the National Craft and Small Industries Association between 1936 and 1938, and soon became famous among all the noble and upper middle class families of that time, even being appreciated by the royal house. In fact, Anita designed, together with her daughter Maria Teresa Grifoni, the Christening gown for Princess Maria Pia of Savoia, daughter of Umberto II and Maria Josè, in 1934.
